Highpoint Health Auxiliary Celebrates 60th Anniversary

The Auxiliary of Highpoint Health celebrated its 60th anniversary at its annual recognition luncheon held at the Dearborn Country Club.  Chartered on November 15, 1958, the Auxiliary has donated more than $2.17 million to the hospital and related services since its founding.

At the luncheon, Auxiliary President Sylvia Plashko presented a check for $40,000 to Highpoint Health President and CEO Michael W. Schwebler on behalf of the Auxiliary.  The donation was used for payment toward the GE SenoClaire™ 3D (three-dimensional) Mammography Unit for the hospital’s Breast Care Center.  Other donations made by the Auxiliary during its 2018 fiscal year were an additional $10,000 toward the mammography unit; $5,000 for Highpoint Health Foundation Scholarships for high school seniors; and $250 for a children’s entertainment unit in the Imaging Department.

In addition to its monetary contributions, the Auxiliary has provided hundreds of thousands of hours of service, volunteering more than 21,000 hours during the 2018 fiscal year.  Volunteers staff the Information Desk, serve as Greeters and Messengers, and work in the Gift Shop, Sewing Room and Community Relations.  Many volunteer at special hospital events such as    Health-A-Fair and the Dillard’s and Collective Goods sales.

During the business portion of the event, the Auxiliary held its annual election of officers for the positions of President, First Vice President and Corresponding Secretary.  Mrs. Plashko, Marita Cizek and Sharyn Makrancy were re-elected to the positions of President, First Vice President and Corresponding Secretary respectively.

They will join current officers Paul Filter, Second Vice President; Marge Waldon, Recording Secretary; and Marilyn Courtney, Treasurer, who will be eligible for re-election in 2019.

Following the elections, Auxilians were recognized for their service to the hospital.  Pins and/or hour guards were awarded to Auxilians who had reached milestones in their hours of volunteer service.  Life membership pins were also presented to those who reached milestones in both hours worked and age.
